When we left off, our group had just defeated a pack of Sahuagin that were attempting to sink the river boat taking us to Newport.  Marv was in the water and decided to investigate the Sahuagin's transport devices.  They were tentacles of some sort.
An other battle was emanate, and we needed Marv back on the boat.  Annalis fumbled a search for some tools that might assist in hauling Marv back in.  Scar messed up an attempt to shoot a ballista into the tentacle holding onto Marv, almost hitting Marv in the process.  Andal fell of the mast and into the water trying to get down.  With everything against us, Ellenoria tries a bluff to improve moral and succeeds.  Marv fails a rope skill, but with an action point was able to succeed on pulling himself closer to the boat--or the boat closer to him.  Annalis balances on the rope and makes it to Marv, and Scar tries to pull Marv in.  Andel tries to swim back to the boat but it isn't working.  Ellenoria learns the monsters are Water Weirds from the other sailors and it is known that Sahuagin often ride them into battle.  Andal fails to find the boat, thus failing our skills challenge.  We were now in a worse spot than when we started.  Marv, Andal, and Annalis were all off the boat.
The Water Weirds climbed onto the boat and the attack  begins.  Ellenoria takes a lot of damage the first round and runs for the mast.  Sparky bloodies a Water Weird in the first round using his special lighting attack, and it is clear they have a weakness against electrical attacks.  Marv also does some heavy damage in his first round, with Jam making a decent attack as well.  Scar gets an attack in that doesn't do much damage.  However, Andal calls lighting using Sparky as a source and really puts on a show.  Soon there were three dead Water Weirds killed by Jam, Scar and Annalis.  One of the enmey fumbles and takes electrical damage from Sparky for this mistake.  After this failed attack, Sparky blows the enemy up with an electrical attack.  Annalis ends up with a natural 20 and destroys the enemy she is fighting.  Ellenoria then sings this song to boost attacks:
Yo ho, yo ho, the fighter's life,
The a flag o' skull and bones,
A merry hour, a hempen rope,
And Marv kills Davy Jones.
Our setup today made use of my project the other day where I installed LED strip lighting to our game board.  This illuminates the table and makes it easy to see one's character sheet.  Everyone was pleased with the results.

River Sprite Encounters Sahuagin

Riding Aboard the River Sprite

Riding Aboard the River Sprite

The group was now aboard the River Sprite on our way to Newport, about a days journey away.  There was nothing special on the first day of travel.  Andal was sea sick, and the group discussed our ideas about keeping our true identity secret while in Twilight City.  That evening we awoke to heavy seas.  Reaching the deck of the ship we saw no weather, and there was not a strong wind.  Looking into the water we saw Sahuagin.  They were riding waves in a circle around the ship attempting to create a whirlpool to sink the vessel.  The first to see this was a new character named Scar, a raptor man in leather armor with goggles, opened fire on the enemy with a bow and battle began.
In the first round of battle Marv, who only attack at close quarters tried to balance on the bowsprit, but fell into the water.  Jam mannaged to throw a road and lasso Marv's arm.  Andal attacked using Sparky as a lightning source.  This caused Sparky to begin glowing, and then a bolt of lightning jetted out from Sparky to Andel (who was in the crow's nest) and then down to an enemy in the water.  The enemy exploded.  Marv continued to battle in the water and doing pretty well.  Scar used an action point and in a single round killed an enemy with a volly of arrow that would have made Legolas proud.  Ellenoria sang several Songs of Battle to the tune of old sailing songs, giving everyone a bonus to attacks.  One by one each enemy was destroyed.
After all the enmies were destroyed, Marv went to inspect the device the the Sahuagin were riding to create the whirlpool.  He discovered they were, in fact, tentacles from a much larger creature that is larking under the water.  The first fight was over, but the battle was about to go into a second phase.

The Arch Mage, University Tower, and Marv Ale

Marv Smash, the Dragon's Glory Hammer

Marv Smash, the Dragon's Glory Hammer

Our group had defeated a hoard of zombies and some large undead Void creature, attracting a group of onlookers.  At the end of the battle we met She Who Burrows, the infamous God like creature from the Void.  Now the battle was over.
As the group stood recuperating we saw the town Constable.  With him were a small army of mages who were destroying the remaining undead creatures with great ease.  He apoligized about not showing up sooner as he had not understood the severity of the problem he sent us to solve.  But after being inundated with pleas from the otherwise tough guys of the neighborhood he brought reinforcements.  Among them was Arch Mage Bertran Graylock of the Southerland Graylocks.  We talked to him and he explained the hole was being used as a portal to the Void using human sacrifices.  The Arch Mage brought with him several of the students of the University Tower school of magic.  There were using Thamterigal Devining Rods to find magic hotspots and were rather interested in our wizard Jo King.  Ellenoria relayed the story of our travels, including information about Gaius Dermious, the ancient Solarian and his labs.  The Arch Mage used the Noitacinummoc stone and talked in technobabble with Gaius for sometime.  We were then invited to come to the University Tower.  The wizards placed a white energy dome over the opening in the ground.  We were told that if three such portals opened it would lead to a permanent pathway from the Void to this world.
We then talked to Gaius.  He had been setting up his own lab in the Citadel, and spending part of his time correcting religious dogmas and translations.  She Who Burrows is one of the more powerful Void Creatures, yet it is hard to understand her motives.  While others want control, She Who Burrows is somehow related to the Queen's rebellious daughter who is known for doing anything bad.  She Who Burrows has been known to cause entire nations to be swallowed up.  The entire city of desert city Mytanth vanished into the sand dunes.  Mythanth lives in legend as city of excess wealth, great magic, and golems of platinum.  He warned us not to trust any Void Gods.  It was clear we needed to go to Twilight City where it is believed an other portal has been opened.
The Constable was going to arrange a boat for us to travel.  In the mean time we needed to get back at the Dragon's Glory Inn, but Ankus Lightfoot knew of our adventures even before we returned.  Many had seen our epic battle, and now we were the talk of the town.  That evening the largest crowd that Ankus ever had at his bar, where they served Marv Ale and Ellenoria animated the story of their battle.  Hoodlums were attempting to style themselves in large coats, and codpieces with fairy-like dolls—a clear imitation of Marv.  Crowds gather to see us.
That evening, Marv noticed a black mist coming out of the bite wound he received in the battle.  There was magic, some kind of negative void energy, but didn't seem to be spreading or life treating.  The same evening, Annalis woke up with a knife to her threat.  It was then she was told "We've excepted your application to the assign's guild" and given a black business card.
On the following morning most of the group headed to the University.  The Arch Mage examined Marv and said the black mist was a necrotic energy he had never encountered before.  They were need some time to do research.  The students also tried to examine Jo King, but nothing conclusive was discovered.  We were given some black rings that looked like stone but feel like metal.  We were told when activated they provide us with complete protection from all status effect from Void Creatures for 3 rounds, but only good once.  We each took one.
The Constable gave us 1500 gold and a boat to Twilight City.  He was there with someone in find clothing, slender, well kept, and dark eyes.  This was the magistrate.  Annalis quickly learned he too was a member of the assign's guild.  The father of the Eniaion Drathan, the thieving leader of the Snowflake Guardians who's life had ended after an interrogation by Marv and Annalis, had a blood oath against us.  He resides in Twilight City and will not be welcoming our coming.
As we sailed away, crowds of people gathered to see us off.  Marv is now rather popular with the women, and Ellenoria keeps his image as the large silent type.  Away on the River Sprite with Captin Dumall, Twilight City awaits.

Solarian lab and the Stone Lady

Elanoria and the Druid

Elanoria and the Druid

Tonight our D&D group continued the exploration of the ancient Solarian dungeon.  We had been attacked the previous encounter by some magical robotic spiders and took a severe beating.  We lost one of the Kobolds and are down to just two: Jam and Medium Greg.  Medium Greg get an electric shock and his mane now sticks up and he's a little tweaked out.  The room from which the spiders came turned out to be some kind of facility full of glass jars holding really scary creatures in some kind of magical stasis.  We found the walls had several Solarian rulers including the last of the Solarian emperors before the empire fell.  We deduced this area must be newer than other parts of the dungeon.  One of the emperors was defaced, but none of us are smart enough to know who they might be or why this emperor was disliked.  The facility had many tiny spiders preforming maintenance on the specimens, but after some cautious investigation the we found the spiders didn't care about us when we entered.
One of the specimens was a pretty elfish women with obvious attempts at warning anyone from opening the case.  Marve wanted to open it up, but Elanoria (my character) persuaded him that was not a good idea.  We decided not to mess with anything else in the room until we knew more and moved into a corridor.  The Kobolds reconized the area and said this was where they knew the Stone Lady was close.  They would not enter the room with the Stone Lady since she had killed some of their kin as they were searching for treasure.  Elanoria, usually pretty honest, paid the Kobolds 15 gold for escorting us this far and we went to see about this Stone Lady.
The rouge sneaked into the room to have a look, but when she got within 25 feet of the statue heard a voice asking a question in ancient Solarian.  Our druid could only understand a word or two of the question, but it seemed as if a request for a name had been made.  The rouge then went back and tried to answer the question, but we didn't understand the response.  So Marve decided to approach and use a more universal language: force.  Since we were all expecting a battle we had made a good deal of preparation.  The wizard had cast enlarge on Marve, and I sang a song of battle to improve everyone's stats.  The Stone Lady seems to take half damage from melee, has some regeneration abilities, and does frost damage.
We just started the battle when we had to end the session, so tune in next week to find out what happens!
