When I biked into work this morning, it was -1°F (-18°C) with wind speeds of 25 MPH and gusts up to 37 MPH which made for wind chills down to -25°F. Typically, I dress in thermal pants, double socks, hooded sweet shirt, leather jacket, gloves and three face masks. Today I added sweet pants and a sweet shirt. Most of the ride in I had a tail wind and stayed fairly comfortable. The last stretch is by the parking lot--an area I refer to as The Gauntlet. It runs north and south, with nothing to the west--and all the wind usually comes from the west. That run today was close to insane. There was so much wind I almost had to lean into it. Most of my face is covered by 3 layers, but there is a small area of exposed skin around my eyes and the wind felt like a knife cutting into the left side of my face.
