Indi and Steve

Biked up to Devil's Lake today.  Decided to ride to the north shoe which makes for a slightly longer ride.  I had considered camping because of how warm it has been.  However, with sunset happening before 5:00 pm and not rising again until 6:00 am, I wasn't sure what I would do in the evening hours.  Instead I met up with Steve and Indi and we hiked around.  The leaves at Elmwood Park are in full color, but at the lake the color was already gone.  The first freeze of the season happened a couple weeks ago, which I'm sure didn't help that.  So I have missed the good color at the lake this year.  Still, I got four runs up and down the rock face.
The ride totaled 2 hours 35 minutes, covering 37.9 miles and burning 1,870 Calories.  At the lake I hiked around for 2 hours and 25 minutes, covering 3.13 miles (we sat a lot) and burned an other 1,184 Calories.  We left as the sun began to set.  Thanks Steve and Indi for coming out for the day!

Now that November is here, it is time to tally up October.  I did a total of 43 hours 26 minutes of exercise, that included 340 miles traveled and consuming some 29,000 Calories.  That's up for September where I had 35 hours and burned 23,000 Calories.  I don't imagine I'm going to get anywhere close as weather will cause less biking.  But October includes 7 bike ride of more than 20 miles, 4 over 30 miles, and 1 at a personal record of over 50 miles.  So a lot of progress has been made.

Happy Halloween!

Our Halloween gathering has been our largest gathering so far.  We had 5 bands play, and we estimate around 50 guests.  The whole house had been prepared with lighting and decorations setup in all rooms.  The only mistake was not having the lighting setup outside by the fire as the lights I got for that disappeared during setup.  Regardless the gathering went until around 4:00 am (including the hour gained for daylight savings) when I finally drowned the fire, did some spot cleaning, and turned off the lights.
   Thanks everyone who came out.

Light booth

Our gathering tomorrow includes a set of 5 bands.  We've done a few shows out of the garage before and the positioning of the sound/lighting area had always been a bit of an issue because it takes up limited floor space  So I came up with this idea.  The stairwell to the basement has a railing made of 2x6 studs seated on concrete—pretty stable.  The wall next to the stairwell is plywood and the location of studs is fairly easy to make out by looking for the nails that hold the plywood up.  So I decide to use a little scrap wood to cover the stairwell and make a sound booth.  This puts the person running the show out of the way, and above the heads of everyone.  Construction took about 45 minutes, most of which was refining our idea.  But the results I think are going to work well.  Neil should be able to run everything for this location.  In addition we can block off the stairs to the basement.  Access to the booth is through the window into Xiphos' bedroom.  Kind of excited for the show tomorrow.
