Good-bye hair... I started growing my hair out in July of 1996 and I've had a tail ever since. In 2000 I briefly grew out a mohawk and in August I started growing my full "queue". This morning, it measured over 30 inches in length when brushed out. I placed the tail in one rubber band and clipped it off. The tail has been donated to
Locks of Love, a group that makes donated hair into wigs for children with cancer. The remainder of the hair was shaved off and it is the first time I have been bald in 12 years.
My plan is to stay bald for a few months, then begin work on my next tail. I loved having long hair and this tail took the better part of eight years to complete. I have always been inspired by the Tibetan Buddhist tridition of creating
Sand Mandalas. These works of art take weeks the create and are then distroyed or allowed to blow away in the wind. This is meant to show that all things are temporary and that they change.
