This evening after work I set out to build a cover for the window in the front room of this apartment. There are several lights in the parking lot that run all night long and I have difficulty sleeping in anything less then total darkness. Initially I thought I would just use a piece of foil-backed foam insulation to cover the window. However, the mini-blinds in the window protrude out enough to make this a problem. So I build a frame out of 1x2" wood, and covered it in aluminum foil and white cloth. As it turns out, the cloth was fairly transparent and you are able to see the duct tape seams.
To mount this over the window, I used four small L-shaped screws; two on top and two on the bottom. These keep the frame seated tightly against the wall. A little light comes through on the edges, but it is much better then how it was before.
